Most of us try to eat healthy. But in this modern world where most of the foods are processed or hormones injected and with pollution in air ,water and soil, it is very difficult to lead a steady healthy life.
Our body is built to remove the toxins in our body . But sometimes it cant handle the rate at which our bodies are being poisoned.Most of us are functioning below optimal health levels because of toxic overload . Toxins and waste are killing us softly, decreasing our immediate quality of life and aging us at a faster rate.
We are all familiar with fasting and its followed as a ritual in some religions.On occasions most of the family members are not supposed to eat anything throughout the day except for fruits , juices and plenty of water and was asked to avoid anything which contained salt or spice. Have you ever wondered what was the reason behind this fasting? Its been followed on a regular basis in order that the body detoxifies and gets a rest from its routine to remove the toxins from the body. Without even knowing the reason behind it, such fasting as been modernized and changed by eating all fatty and high sugar content ,man made sweets instead of nature made sweets( fruits).
Well, I have not followed these ritual of fasting all these years until recently I understood the reason why we need to detoxify our body – its a natural and continuous process your body uses to purify itself of harmful substances.
There are a few symptoms which will indicate that your body is toxic overload and it needs a detox!
- Feeling tired and lethargic
- Frequent headaches
- Trouble concentrating and being focused
- Bad breath or Unpleasant body odor
- Depression or frequent mood changes/Irritability
- Constipation or other irregularity
- Frequent gas /bloating /indigestion
- Trouble sleeping
There are several detox diets available which we can do one in a month or so. But there are several things we can do on daily basis to stop the accumulation of the toxins and help out body to flush the accumulated toxins out and heal the damage they cause:
- Drink lots of water-atleast 2 litres of water (add lemons for added super detox power)
- Eat more fiber including brown rice and a diverse diet of natural organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables.
Beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli and seaweed are excellent detoxifying foods. - Exercise on regular basis so that the you sweat out the toxins(drink plenty of water before you exercise).Stretch at-least 2-3 times a week (yoga, pilates or whatever you know)
- Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.
- Eat only what you need to function in the day (i.e. stop eating when full )
Sweat in a sauna so your body can eliminate wastes through perspiration.- Practice hydrotherapy by taking a very hot shower for five minutes, allowing the water to run on your back. Follow with cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times, and then get into bed for 30 minutes.
- Sleep (early to bed and early to rise is best with atleast 7-8 hrs of sleep)
- Meditate (use deep breathing techniques) and transform stress by emphasizing positive emotions
- For one day a week/month, do a partial fast (i.e. eat only a healthy fruits, juices )
By following a detox diet we can easily get rid of the excess weight and look more fresh, focused and motivated . Try it and you will feel the difference!!
